Finding The Notes

This is the best exercise that I know of for memorizing the location of the notes on the fretboard. This is important because when you’re soloing you want to be able to jump to these notes to play riffs on or around them. Since we will be using whole notes (four beats each) all down strokes are O.K. for this. Again, choose a nice slow tempo, about 100 bpm should do. If your neck doesn’t have a 21st fret, just skip it.

Now let’s find all the E’s on the neck.

Finding the notes

Find a few different notes each time you warm up. You’ll be easily playing all over the neck before you know it.
